CVAN EM’s 2018 Annual Event, Another World Is Possible, will explore what conditions are needed and what are the right risks to run to make something happen. What might future art practice look like and what are useful new ways of doing things.

The day will start the day at NN Contemporary Art with a viewing of A Manipulation of Terms, a solo exhibition by University of Northampton graduate and NN studio artist Dylan Fox, whose work explores his experiences transitioning gender spanning printed matter, sound, found objects and neon.

From there delegates will make their way, ‘walking and talking’, through The Racecourse park to the University of Northampton’s Avenue Campus, where we will have lunch in Newton Grand Hall. En route from NN and on site delegates will see artwork by UoN’s BA and MA students, produced for the occasion*.

Following lunch delegates will hear from Ryan Hughes – artist, curator and founding director of the Coventry Biennial of Contemporary Art – about what made the Biennial possible, what opportunities it yielded for artists and practitioners, what risks were run to realise it and what legacy it leaves.

Breakout conversations covering a range of per-determined topics will allow delegates to converse and share views on topics essential to art practice and its dissemination, before we reconvene and sum up.

*The UoN students showing work are: Katie Smith, Lucy Brown, Jan Harrington, Rebecca Sharp, Charlotte Richards and Joanne Drewniak.
