CAMPUS Fugitive: The Unexpected Beautiful Phrase is a one-day programme of drop-in events and performative moments, taking place in Nottingham Contemporary’s The Space on Saturday 4th May 2019, 11am-5.30pm. Through a series of performative gestures, we will consider how the fugitive learner navigates institutional space. Featuring performance, readings, sound and video works, this event asks: how can we be fugitive within the constraints of traditional educational models? How can illegibility generate new and disruptive vocabularies? What role does the body play in (un)learning?
Keep an eye out, too, for surprise encounters, interruptions and overspills throughout Nottingham Contemporary’s other spaces…
Artists and contributors: Denise Ferreira da Silva and Arjuna Neuman, Christopher Kirubi, Dorine van Meel with Jules Sturm, Holly Pester, Raju Rage, Rosa Johan Uddoh, and Department for International Dance Development (DIDD)
The Unexpected Beautiful Phrase is curated by Pablo Luis Álvarez, Giulia Antonioli, Teal Baskerville, Chloe Carroll, Emily Hale and Laura Luempert as part of the Curating Contemporary Art MA Graduate Projects 2019, Royal College of Art. This project is part of the launch programme for CAMPUS – Nottingham Contemporary’s new independent studies programme.
