Join us for an exhibition of mixed media 3D sculptural tableau. Through collage and ephemera, artist Gerry Henegan Barr uses humour, phantasmagoria and animal form to explore how we relate to and affect the world around us, with two different wall pieces, both illustrating cats in various forms.
The first piece, with a backdrop of an ocean, sky and starry night, displays handmade 3D ceramic and textile hybrid creatures such as flying hybrid catfish, and astro cats flying into space. The work explores the way animals are having to adapt and evolve; sharing their DNA, their wings, fins, and tails to swim, fly and soar to survive the depths and heights of humanity’s polluted legacy. A single swimmer with goggles on, concentrating on her daily exercise quota shows, as humans, our single minded nature – focusing on our own lives rather than the wider impact of our actions.
The second wall piece looks at our relationship with domestic animals, their relationship with us and their devotional needs for food. Animal figures, often cats, some in ‘Shrine Like’ surroundings, portray human traits and qualities, and posture various forms of ‘tongue in cheekery’.
In addition to the exhibition, join us for the following events:
Saturday 4 Feb, 4pm-7pm – Meet the artist
Sunday 12 Feb, 4-7pm – Private view & refreshments, free of charge, all welcome
