About
New Contemporary Artist-Led Studio Space Situated in one of Derbyshire’s most historic Mills.
Haarlem Artspace in Wirksworth is housed in the historic Grade 2 star listed, Haarlem Mill, and is a new artist-led space which aims to champion and encourage contemporary, rural, creative practice and research.
Set up by Geoff Diego Litherland, Olivia Punnett, Bev Shephard & Anna Clyne; two award winning contemporary Artists & 2 creative Business & Fundraising specialists, Haarlem Mill offers dedicated studios and co-working spaces for creative practitioners.
“Artists working rurally are often working alone, or, as we were doing, travelling into city centre studios to be part of the contemporary working arts. Many Artists were having to do this…we felt it was time for a change.”
Olivia Punnett
“The juxtaposition of contemporary practice against a rural landscape offers an inspirational platform for creative practitioners to exhibit and collaborate.“
Geoff Diego Litherland (CVAN EM Document Artist)
Having been sensitively restored to English Heritage standards, Haarlem Mill has undergone a dramatic transformation. The result is a beautiful, bespoke and modern studio space for creative practitioners. It also offers a flexible public space which will operate an engaging and ambitious program of events and activities relating to Art, landscape, and the environment.
There will be a public opening on the 29th July with the cutting of our RED TAPE (Legal paper binding tape that was traditionally manufactured in Haarlem Mill). Come and meet our studio artists; see the space and some great art. There will be Special guest appearances (to be revealed), starting at 11am till late. There will also a Silent Art Auction throughout the day and online.
As renovation continues, Haarlem Artspace hopes to occupy more of the old mill, moving down a floor when it becomes ready. Haarlem will also be open during this year’s Wirksworth Festival on the 8th- 24th of September, when you can see a specially curated exhibition in the space, and meet artists & studio holders.
