16 Southwell Road, Nottingham NG1 1DL, United Kingdom Surface Gallery

Surface Gallery is delighted to present the first in a series of exhibitions, STRATA: 1.

This is STRATA: a collective of five Loughborough Fine Art graduates engaging with – and pushing the boundaries of – the raw medium of paint. STRATA:1 captures the ‘unseen’ and the ephemeral in nature, the environment, and the human condition through the driving force of paint.

These artists are inspired by the luminous qualities of colour; through varying densities of paint and chroma, their paintings depict landscape and form in both their subtlety and their vibrancy.
The exhibition provides a unique glimpse into the creative processes of these painters and their own individual practices, and how their collaborative ideas and painterly investigations have resulted in the works presented in the gallery. This first in the series of STRATA collaborations is curated by Sarah Cunningham.

STRATA:1 opens in the Main Gallery in conjunction with The First Person: A Solo Exhibition by Thomas Young in the Project Space. As always there will be a donations bar with ales from local brewery, Springhead.
Free Entry: Everyone Welcome.

Opening Hours:
