200 Days of Dance

Déda, the East Midlands’ centre for dance, contemporary circus and outdoor performance, are calling for entries from amateur and professional photographers.

As part of Déda’s 20 year anniversary celebrations, we are celebrating the story of dance in Derby since the 1950s through Derby Dancing, a community heritage project that will culminate in an exhibition at Déda running from September to December 2018.

200 Days of Dance is an open call that aims to collate photographs inspired by the theme of ‘dance’, one for each of the 200 days leading up until the end of the Derby Dancing exhibition.

We are inviting photographers to respond to the theme of ‘dance’ with fun, engaging and visually striking work. The best images will be shared on Déda’s Instagram and the Derby Dancing Twitter account in the lead up to the exhibition.

A panel, including Derby Dancing curators Andrea Hadley-Johnson and Clare Cutts alongside Déda’s Artistic Director and CEO Stephen Munn, will make a selection to be printed and displayed as part of Derby Dancing. All remaining images will be on digital display as part of the exhibition.

Déda welcome entries from all genres, styles and approaches by photographers worldwide and, most importantly, from all levels of practice. International and national submissions are welcome, professional as well as non-professional. From pinhole to phone cameras, DSLR to Polaroid, we cannnot wait to see the range and creativity of submissions!

Please send a maximum of two entries in JPEG format via We Transfer to marketing@deda.uk.com with your name and contact details. Title your email “200 Days of Dance Entry”. Please send entries by Sunday 19 August if you would like the opportunity to put your photograph forward for selection to be printed in the exhibition. Entries submitted after this date will be on digital display as part of the Derby Dancing exhibition at Déda. Entrants must have photographic consent for any dancers featured in submissions.
