Artist Commission – Building for Belonging

Overview:

We are looking for an early career Artist to join us for a new project, Building for Belonging, funded by Birmingham City Council’s Next Generation Commissioning Fund. This is a fantastic opportunity for a young creative to work alongside professional artists working in a community youth arts setting whilst also creating their own piece of work in response to the project’s processes and themes of home, belonging and the built environment.

The final commissioned work will be exhibited in the Building for Belonging exhibition in January 2019. The Artist will receive support and guidance from The GAP team as well as use of The GAP’s resources for the production of work, including space and equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • To attend all workshop sessions taking place over the half term holidays (between 29th October – 4th November)
  • Assist in the preparation and facilitation of these sessions, whilst reflecting on how their content might inform your own commissioned creative response
  • Independently develop your own artwork inspired by the project workshops and its themes, in an art form of your choosing

Person Specification:

Required:

  • Be aged 18 – 25 (inclusive)
  • Have an interest in the themes and/or art forms being explored within the project
  • Have a pre-existing creative practice in any art form (visual arts, design, writing, photography, film, etc…)
  • Be confident and willing to actively engage with children and young people in a workshop setting
  • Have the initiative, dedication and confidence to independently work towards a brief
  • Have excellent organisation and ability to work to a deadline
  • Be a proactive, creative & reflective thinker and doer
  • Have good communication with people of different ages and backgrounds
