Artists wanted for Lapworth Lates

The University of Birmingham is delighted to announce two exciting opportunities for artists/ creative practitioners to create event-based work for Lapworth Lates, a series of evening events at the Lapworth Museum of Geology.

Enabling visitors to explore life over the past 3.5 billion years, the Lapworth Museum showcases exceptional objects from one of the UK’s most outstanding geological collections, with state-of-the-art galleries and a range of innovative and interactive exhibits, all completely free of charge.

Lapworth Lates aims to attract a different audience to the Museum, particularly young adults in their 20s and 30s, with an evening of talks, performances, demonstrations, activities and film screenings. The series includes artist-led events, which respond to the collections or exhibitions, or result from engagement with research, and offer fresh perspectives or new means of communicating ideas.

We are seeking applications from practitioners interested in responding creatively to the theme of ‘RELATIONSHIPS’ for our next ‘Lates event on Thursday 13 February 2020. Event proposals could include (but are not limited to) performances, workshops or screenings – we are open to proposals of all kinds.

The successful applicants will each receive a fee of £500 (incl VAT) to cover materials and/or production of the commission.

For application guidelines, please email culture@contacts.bham.ac.uk. The deadline for applications is Thursday 19th December 2019, 12pm.
