Artquest Programme Co-ordinator

Artquest is a programme of UAL supported by Arts Council England since 2001. We are entering a new phase of our development and now require a Programme Co-ordinator for 2 days a week.

The role is temporary until April 2022, running alongside our next round of Arts Council funding.

The successful candidate will research, develop and deliver specified parts of the Artquest programme with a focus on our regular projects and liaison with freelance artists. The Co-ordinator will have particular responsibility for:

  • collating, editing and updating website articles;
  • liaising with the Administrator on listings and opportunities;
  • telephone, social network and email queries;
  • administering Artlaw online legal queries, talks, internships, mentoring
  • administering and delivering one to one advice to artists

Artquest is a dynamic, small unit of UAL run by visual artists, all working part-time to deliver projects and resources to professional artists around London and the UK.

UAL is Europe’s largest creative higher education institution and offers excellent benefits and staff development programmes.

Working as part of a small part-time team you must be able to work independently and to a high standard, taking responsibility for tasks and be able to work flexibly. Regular working days are negotiable, but all the team must be available to work on Wednesdays.  Some occasional evening and weekend work is required. This varied role would particularly suit a visual artist looking for work related to their arts practice that also brings income to support their career.

  • Has received formal training or education at post 16 level in visual arts subject – essential
  • Has demonstrable knowledge of London and wider UK visual arts sector, preferably as an artist – essential
  • Has relevant experience in project management and is able to work independently – essential
  • Communicates effectively orally, in writing and using visual media / presentations – essential
  • Uses appropriate levels of IT skills to enable best use of available information and communications as necessary for the post:
  • Ability to ensure that accurate information is passed onto the most appropriate people in a timely fashion to improve working practices – essential
  • Is involved in networks to pursue a shared interest and contribute to building and strengthening working relationships, sharing information and ideas to help others develop their practice/area of work – desirable
  • Supervises and motivates individuals effectively, particularly freelance colleagues, setting clear objectives to manage performance – essential
  • Uses effective professional practice to provide excellent, sensitive advice and promote inclusivity – essential
  • Experience of working as a member of a team including temporary and freelance staff – essential
  • Ability to work to agreed standards organising own work in ways that saves time and meet deadlines – essential
  • Plans, prioritises and organises work to achieve objectives on time – essential
  • Works collaboratively in a team and where appropriate across or with different professional groups – essential
  • Provides a positive and responsive customer service – essential
  • Uses initiative and creativity to resolve problems – essential
