Assistant Curator

The Hepworth Wakefield is an award-winning art gallery in the heart of Yorkshire, set within Wakefield’s historic waterfront, overlooking the River Calder. Designed by the acclaimed David Chipperfield Architects, the gallery opened in May 2011 and has already welcomed more than 2 million visitors and regularly receives national and international acclaim.

Named after Barbara Hepworth, one of the most important artists of the 20th century who was born and brought up in Wakefield, the gallery presents major exhibitions of the best international modern and contemporary art. It is also home to Wakefield’s art collection – an impressive compendium of modern British and contemporary art – and has dedicated galleries exploring Hepworth’s art and working process.

We are looking for an Assistant Curator to support, contribute to and deliver a world-class programme of exhibitions and public events and to contribute to the care, research and development of the Wakefield Permanent Art Collection and the Hepworth Family Gift.

You will work closely with the Chief Curator, Curator and Programme Team to provide strategic administrative, research and practical support in developing and delivering the exhibitions and public programme at The Hepworth Wakefield. You will support the team in producing engaging and accessible copy for exhibition interpretation, press releases, learning material and web site / downloadable resources, and input into the development and delivery of exhibition publications, and national and international tours.

If you are a highly motivated, flexible and adaptable individual with experience of developing and delivering exhibitions and public programme events, we would be very interested to hear from you. Please for a job description and details of how to apply.
