Assistant Curator, Lotherton (Decorative Art)

Leeds Museums and Galleries seek to appoint an Assistant Curator with a specialism in decorative art to be based at Lotherton.

The Designated collections of fine and decorative arts are wide-ranging and include paintings, furniture, ceramics, metalwork, flat textiles and wallpapers. The Assistant Curator will be responsible for assisting in the development, care, access and interpretation of these important collections.

The collections are primarily displayed within the context of the two country houses which are part of Leeds Museums and Galleries, Lotherton and Temple Newsam. The Assistant Curator will be based at Lotherton and report to the Curator based at Temple Newsam.

Working collaboratively with colleagues across Leeds Museums and Galleries, Leeds City Council, external partners and communities to maximise the impact of our collections and the experience of our audiences is an important aspect of the role.

Leeds Museums and Galleries is the largest local authority-run museum service in the country and an Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation. Lotherton is an Edwardian country house and estate set on the outskirts of Leeds operated through a partnership between Leeds Museums and Galleries and Leeds City Council’s Parks and Countryside service as a successful visitor attraction.

We promote diversity and want a workforce that reflects the population of Leeds. Leeds City Council is a Stonewall Top 100 employer, a Mindful employer and a Disability Confident employer.

All new Leeds City Council appointments are made subject to the satisfactory completion of a six month probationary period.
