Assistant Curator, On the Bench

UP Projects are seeking an Assistant Curator to support the delivery of On the Bench: a multi-site participatory commission by artist Harry Meadley for the Floating Cinema. The work is situated in the cities, towns and rural countryside of South and East Yorkshire and will engage communities in a process of research & development, resulting in a series of short films to be screened as part of the Floating Cinema tour from Sheffield to Hull.

The successful candidate will be based in, or be willing to travel regularly to Yorkshire and will work closely with Harry Meadley to support the engagement process with the various community groups along the touring route between Sheffield and Hull. The Assistant Curator will be the main point of contact for groups and individuals participating in the project and will be responsible for scheduling workshops, research and filming sessions with each group, as well as contributing to the Floating Cinema programme of events and screenings.

The project forms part of the Hull 2017 City of Culture celebrations and is funded by Arts Council England’s Strategic Touring Fund, Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, Canal & River Trust and BFI.

We welcome applications from candidates in Yorkshire. The successful candidate will be required to travel to our London office occasionally. Some overnight stays and evening/weekend working will be required.

This is a 6-month freelance position. Applicants must be available for immediate start.

  • Salary: Freelance fee of £10,000 (based on £25,000 pro rata)
  • Duration 6 months (with immediate start)
  • Hours: The role is part time based on 4 days per week. A schedule of working days will be agreed, to allow for evening and weekend working during tour dates.
