Leeds Museums and Galleries seeks to appoint an Assistant Curator with a specialism in sculpture as part of its longstanding partnership with the Henry Moore Institute.
The Leeds’ sculpture collection comprises around 1000 objects and 400 works on paper together with an archive of sculptors’ papers. They are the most significant of any regional museum in the UK and form part of Leeds Museums and Galleries’ Designated fine art collections. The collection seeks to narrate the development of sculpture being made in Britain from the 1870s to the present day. It is developed and managed in partnership with the Henry Moore Institute.
Based at Leeds Art Gallery and the Henry Moore Institute, the post holder will assist in the development, care and interpretation of this important collection, contributing to access and engagement for a wide range of audiences.
Leeds Art Gallery is part of Leeds Museums and Galleries which is run by Leeds City Council. Leeds Museums and Galleries is an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation. In 2018/19 Leeds Art Gallery welcomed over 469,000 visitors and is the third most visited free attraction for Yorkshire and Humber according to VisitEngland’s latest annual survey. Leeds Art Gallery and the Henry Moore Institute are partners in Yorkshire Sculpture International with the Hepworth Wakefield and Yorkshire Sculpture Park, bringing a focus to Yorkshire as the home of sculpture.
