Bursary, Online Artist Exchange

A new collaboration with GRAIN Projects (Birmingham, UK), Tasweerghar (Lahore, Pakistan) and Pathshala (Dhaka, Bangladesh) as part of Transforming Narratives, a ground-breaking project to establish Birmingham as a leading international centre for contemporary Pakistani and Bangladeshi arts, for the mutual benefit of Birmingham and cities in Pakistan and Bangladesh.  The project is supported by Arts Council England and delivered in association with The British Council.

GRAIN Projects are seeking to work with 2 photographic artists who are based in Birmingham, UK; One Artist from Pakistani heritage and one artist from Bangladeshi heritage, to begin a new digital exchange. The exchange will be with photographic artists in Pakistan and Bangladesh and with Tasweerghar (Lahore, Pakistan) and Pathshala (Dhaka, Bangladesh).

The Bursary will award £500 per artist and will involve the sharing, publishing and exhibition of new work via digital platforms and a dialogue between artists.

The photographic artist will be required to make new work about their city, environment, family, heritage and/or community, to reflect on place and time during 2020, including the challenges from Covid-19 and the steps towards recovery.   The new work should be part of the dialogue.

The Photographer should be an emerging practitioner that is interested in contemporary photography practice and is critically engaged with exploring, responding to and documenting the current significant time.

The project will run from the end of September to December 2020.
