Collections & Storage Officer

With our new joint CEO’s joining us in November, marking an exciting new chapter for Birmingham Museums Trust and the city.  We are now seeking a motivated individual with experience in Collections Management to join our Collections Team.

You will be responsible for Collections Care and maintaining standards for all objects, and also both site and Collections Management procedures for the Museum Collection Centre, while contributing to all sites and collections across BMT’s portfolio.

You will join at a busy and exciting time, supporting a range of projects. The Collections Team are currently undertaking a major inventory programme at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery which will be followed by a targeted decant of collections. At the Museum Collection Centre, we are preparing a number of focused collections re-locations internally in advance of external infrastructure works. You will also support an ongoing collections rationalisation programme as part of the Arts Council for England funded project centred on the Science and Industry collection.

While comfortable working independently in a challenging but rewarding role, you will be supported by and work closely with our teams of conservators, curators, technicians and wider collections staff.

You will have excellent communication and organisational skills, with significant experience in a collections management role, preferably in a practical hands-on environment.

You will have a working knowledge of hazards in museum collections, as well as relevant standards relating to collection, with proven experience of using collections management systems.
