The Hepworth Wakefield is an award-winning art gallery in the heart of Yorkshire, set within Wakefield’s historic waterfront, overlooking the River Calder. Designed by the acclaimed David Chipperfield Architects, the gallery opened in May 2011 and has already welcomed 2 million visitors and regularly receives national and international acclaim.
The Hepworth Wakefield is central to the cultural regeneration of Wakefield and our aim is to generate pride in the area and to improve the aspirations, health and wellbeing of local residents. We are now looking for a Communities Manager who will help to support this aim.
This new post will devise, deliver and evaluate an innovative and sustainable learning programme for the gallery’s diverse local communities. You will work closely with the Senior Learning Manger and learning colleagues to devise additional programming across the wider site as The Hepworth Wakefield leads the cultural development of the Wakefield historic waterfront, including the Hepworth Riverside Gallery Garden, a new ‘playful’ area and activity in the Rutland Mill.
We are looking for someone who has a thorough understanding of national and local health and wellbeing agendas and the experience of developing and evaluating programmes for communities, families and young people gained within a public arts organisation. You will be highly organised and audience-focused individual with excellent communication skills which will enable you to develop successful and sustainable partnerships and collaborations.
