Community Engagement and Participation Officer

Nottingham Castle Trust is seeking an experienced Community Engagement and Participation Officer to lead the development and delivery of all community activities associated with Nottingham Castle in the city and county.

Job Summary

  • To lead on the creation and development of Nottingham Castle Trust’s community engagement and participation programme, creating all relevant supporting operational systems and processes
  • To develop and deliver meaningful engagement and participation activities on behalf of Nottingham Castle for individuals, local community organisations and local interest groups, both on and off-site
  • To work with the Learning Development Officer and Volunteer Manager to deliver the community elements of the NLMHF Activity Plan
  • To build excellent and productive relationships with key external partners such as community groups, refugee support groups, marginalised communities and individuals, local authorities, colleges and universities
  • To regularly review and update community engagement policies, procedures and systems and ensure they are understood and followed by all concerned
  • To work collaboratively with all departments at Nottingham Castle Trust including: education, visitor experience, fundraising, retail, administration, finance, marketing and communications, in order to identify new and existing opportunities for community engagement activities
  • To work to deliver agreed objectives associated with the Community Engagement role and meet KPIs in order to deliver the engagement programme for Nottingham Castle
  • Ensure that Nottingham Castle Trust follows best practice and complies with all current legislation in relation to delivering community engagement and participation activities, with all activities being carried out in a safe and legal way
  • To represent Nottingham Castle at key local and regional community events and to promote the Castle and its community engagement and participation programmes
  • Be the safeguarding lead for community engagement, and represent community engagement at operational health and safety meetings
  • Be the champion at Nottingham Castle Trust for community engagement and participation both internally and externally
  • Be the ‘go to’ person for community engagement, participation and community relations at Nottingham Castle
  • Work closely with the communications team to raise awareness of the impact and benefits of community engagement through all communications channels
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on the community engagement programme on a regular basis; including the effective management of an expenditure budget for the programme and ensuring all participants records are up to date on Nottingham Castle Trust’s database
  • Ensure GDPR compliant mechanisms for recording and accurately tracking all aspects of participatory and community engagement outcomes and impacts
  • Be responsible for dealing with or passing to the Volunteer Manager, any issues or concerns related to volunteers associated with any community engagement activities
  • Ensure the best outcomes for anyone involved in a community or participatory activity or programme with Nottingham Castle Trust
  • To develop and implement an effective communication plan for all individuals, community groups or partners involved in community engagement (supported by the marketing and communications team) including e-newsletters, utilising social media channels and events
  • To keep up to date with developments in schools and the national curriculum, museum education and lifelong learning

Terms of Appointment
Location: Ideally the post holder become part of our wider support team and will live locally
Remuneration: £23k
Hours: This is a full-time role over a fixed term contract of 18 months. 37.5 hours per week (20 days holiday + 8 statutory bank holidays – 28 days total)
