Curator

With over 1,600 square metres of light-filled gallery spaces, The Hepworth Wakefield is the largest purpose-built exhibition space outside London. Since opening in May 2011 to public and critical acclaim we have welcomed over 1.8 million visitors. The gallery brings together work from Wakefield’s art collection, exhibitions by contemporary artists and rarely seen works by Barbara Hepworth. In July 2017, we were chosen as Art Fund Museum of the Year 2017, and we value all our staff and their commitment to driving this success.

We are looking for a Curator to cover a period of maternity leave due to start at the end of February 2018. The Curator supports the strategic ambitions of The Hepworth Wakefield by researching, devising and delivering a programme of world-class exhibitions and collection displays, and contributing to the learning and public programmes. The post also oversees the care, research and development of the Wakefield Permanent Art Collection and archive, held at The Hepworth Wakefield.

The maternity cover role will work primarily on the gallery’s summer exhibitions,Lee Miller and Surrealism in Britain and Viviane Sassen: Hot Mirror (both 22 June – 7 October 2018), as well as the 2018 Hepworth Prize for Sculpture (26 October 2018–20 January 2019).

If you have a proven track record of working both independently and as part of a team to deliver a programme of exhibitions and events that are accessible and attractive to broad audiences, alongside significant experience of working in a public art gallery, then we’d love to hear from you.
