Designer, maker or artist to create local heritage exhibit

Mantle Arts is based in North West Leicestershire and delivers arts projects across the region.

In the mid 1980s our work focused on oral history. We recorded memories of local people that stretched back to before the first world war. ‘N. W. Leicestershire Voices’ is an 18 month project, supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, that will return to these recordings, preserve them via digitisation, and use them in a range of projects to make this archive of local history more accessible. This will include three exhibits/installations/displays.

We wish to appoint a designer, maker or artist to create the first of these exhibits, which will find a permanent home on a site or sites in N.W. Leicestershire. This could consist of a museum style 2D display, or something else entirely. We are open to creative ideas. The exhibit must incorporate extracts from the archive recordings (this could be in the form of links to on-line audio), and set the audio in context for the public as part of their local history/heritage.

Any explanatory text and relevant logos may be incorporated into the exhibit, or placed on a separate interpretive plaque.

Fee: £1800 inclusive of any VAT. (This includes artist/designer/maker fee, plus all materials, manufacture, and travel.)
