The Barbican is Europe’s largest multi-arts presenting a diverse range of art, music, theatre, dance, film and creative learning events.

The visual arts are crucially important to the Barbican’s success. The Barbican Art Gallery is dedicated to the presentation of exhibitions covering modern and contemporary art, design/architecture and photography. The Curve is devoted to the commissioning of large scale site specific installations by contemporary artists. The Barbican aims to serve both artists and audiences and excels in the presentation of exhibitions that are thoughtful, curatorially ambitious and often focus on timely reassessments and inter-disciplinary practice.

The role will include supporting the Head of Visual Arts; including a full range of diary management, secretarial and administrative support. The post holder will also lead on the development, management and coordination of the Gallery’s private views/events, and on the office management for the visual arts team; with duties including financial administration, record keeping and maintaining office IT systems and procedures.

The successful applicant must have excellent organisational and communication skills to manage this busy and exciting position.  They will need to be able to prioritise and be self-managed, and should have a good knowledge of, and a passion for, visual arts, as well as excellent office administration skills. Significant relevant experience in a visual arts context is required along with experience of providing PA support, coordinating and managing small and large scale events, and supervising junior colleagues and event staff.
