Experimentica, live art festival open call

Experimentica is a live art festival in Cardiff that encourages risk, collaboration and exchange between artists and audiences.

The festival commissions and hosts a dynamic programme of live art, performance and interdisciplinary projects and offers a platform for UK and international artists at all stages in their careers, to present experimental work in an open and supportive environment.

For our 2021 festival we will be exploring narratives and alternatives to the status quo; questioning accepted ways of thinking; giving a voice to the underrepresented and challenging existing forms of storytelling – exploring democracy, agency and open authorship.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for artists based in the UK who are engaged in the creation of experimental performance, writing, sound, film and video, dance, theatre or any other live medium.

We are keen to hear from artists who want to participate in discussions around their practice in a supportive and social environment, who want to share ideas, expand understandings and reflect on experiences during the festival.

We welcome proposals from individuals and groups who are excited by the possibility of experimentation and by those who take risks.

You may want to work in a new way that engages with the festival and its wider context whether live, online, in print, through radio or other broadcast means. If you have an idea that you would like to test out; a fully realised work that you would like to show for the first time, or a performance that you have shown before but would like the chance to bring it to new audiences, we would like to hear from you.

This year we plan to present the festival in hybrid form in response to our artists’ and audiences’ needs so we will consider works either suitable for a live, in-venue performance or via other digital means.

WHAT PERFORMER/S WILL RECIEVE

  • Each selected project will be given a £1000 fee;
  • Travel and accommodation will be paid separately;
