Design-Nation’s “Future Thinking” Project 2019-2022

Call-out for External Evaluator

Design-Nation is an membership portfolio of contemporary craft and design practitioners across the UK. We support and promote these designer-makers through opportunities such as CPD events, trade and retail exhibitions and showcases and awards, often working in partnership with sector-specific and regional organisations and subject specialists.

In late 2019 we received a substantial grant by Arts Council England. We now seek a highly competent and engaged external evaluator to work alongside us until mid 2022, creating an evaluation framework and seeking feedback at key milestones from partners and stakeholders. The final report is due in May 2022.

This project will deliver an ambitious and transformative future for Design-Nation. Our target is to create a developing programme for craft and design practice, growing capacity across networks and places (particularly outside of London). The programme has two key elements, bit to be delivered via extensive partnership working: Enhanced Talent Development to be delivered through regional cluster hubs, and Public-Facing Projects
 such as exhibitions and product development. UK-wide partners include industry, retail, event organisers, universities, networks, venues

We are looking for a thoughtful, experienced evaluator, with previous experience of publicly funded arts evaluations; excellent communication skills; numeracy and awareness of quantitative analysis of results against targets; and an understanding of Arts Council England targets and goals. The evaluator will be desk-based (in their own premises), but will attend some meetings with the DN team and steering group at locations in London and the Midlands. The fee of £4,500 includes travel expenses.
