The Make It! In Mansfield Film Project

The film project will be a bookend to, and form a legacy for, our Made in Mansfield gallery project. The film will connect local young people studying art and design with former employees of Mansfield’s textile industries who will as a group learn a range of textile techniques from an artist. Their meetings and workshops will be documented with some sessions being filmed. The installation of the final exhibition piece will also be filmed.

Through this process, the history of the town’s textile industries will be shared and the personal histories of former workers recorded. There is not as much information or collected history around the mills of Mansfield in comparison to other industries such as mining or the Brewery.

The group will collectively produce a textile exhibition inspired by the content of the Made in Mansfield gallery. This will be displayed in the Museum and then toured to other local venues.

The film will be made available through local screenings in community centres and schools, alongside the display of the exhibit and uploaded to Youtube and/or Vimeo for public access. DVD copies will be produced with a toolkit pack available to loan by schools and community groups to create their own textile work.
