New Work Commission

Migration Matters Festival is now in its 5th year celebrating Refugee Week and this year will happen the 15th-20th June.

This year the festival like many other arts organisations is bringing its programme online so we can continue to celebrate and bring people together in this difficult time.

We strongly believe in the way in which the arts can be a powerful tool for connecting the world and inspiring hope and so Migration Matters Festival is looking to commission 2-3 new pieces of work in line with the sentiments and mission statement of the festival. We are interested in work that is exciting, innovative and challenging and that engage with the Refugee Week 2020 theme of ‘Imagine’

We are looking for artistic responses that can be accessible online and can be experience across various digital platforms. This could include podcasts, livestream (theatre, spoken word and music), radio, exhibitions, installations.

We are especially interested in work that:

  • Is led by or involving people with lived experience of being a refugee, sanctuary seeker or migrating
  • Transcends language barriers (not reliant on English)
  • Work that is interdisciplinary
  • Work that have bold and experimental ideas
  • Work that shed a new light on a subject or issue

Exclusions:

  • Projects that cannot be experienced online
  • Projects that rely on a copyrighted script (no modern adaptations)

Winning commissions receive:

  • Up to £500 for the commission
  • Technical support
  • Marketing and promotional support

If you are interested in applying please complete the following form and send it to sam@migrationmattersfestival.co.uk by 5pm, Friday 15th May 2020.
