Open call for artists | Online Exhibition | Creative Reactions

Open call for artists to participate in an art-meets-science collaboration and to exhibit their artwork online in May 2021. Part of Pint of Science UK.

Project description

Every year in May, Nottingham – among many other cities across the world – hosts a festival called Pint of Science with a range of science-based talks at various events. In 2019, the festival in Nottingham saw over 1500 attendees and more than 50 scientist speakers. Details can be found on www.pintofscience.co.uk.

One division of the festival is called Creative Reactions. Here, we pair scientists with artists, and the artist creates a piece of work inspired by the scientist’s research topic. Hopefully, this is where you come in: We are looking for artists who will volunteer to collaborate with a researcher in order to explore science communication from a creative angle. The scientists work in many different fields of science and we will try to match your own interests when choosing pairs.

Event details

This year, we will be holding an online event, and any collaboration will take place remotely via video call, email etc. One option to be involved is to participate in a blog post featuring your artwork and some background about you as an artist and the collaboration. Another option is to present your artwork in an online gallery space such as this one https://www.kunstmatrix.com/en. Thirdly, we are looking for performance art to incorporate into live online Pint of Science shows. We are also open for suggestions that you think might fit well with your art form.

The festival will take place in May 2021 and will be accessible through the Pint of Science website and the social media channels (@pintofscience and @creativerxns) which are followed by thousands of people.

Application

There will be three options to get involved: either with a blog post, in an online gallery or in a live online show. Please let us know your preference and we will discuss these with you and make a final decision if you are selected.

If you are interested in a specific scientific field, please let us know although we cannot guarantee to match your exact interests.

Please bear in mind that these positions are limited and we will make a selection after receiving all submissions.
