The Derby Ram Trail will be an amazing public art sculpture event with over 30, individually painted 5 foot tall Rams, threading though the city centre during the summer of 2020.
Derby Museums are looking for artists, both well-known and as yet undiscovered, to submit their designs for the unique 3D canvas of the mythical Derby Ram sculpture as part of the Derby Ram Trail next summer. Designs will go to a panel in December 2019 and those shortlisted will then be presented to sponsors of the project at a preview event in January 2020, with up to 30 bespoke designs being commissioned.
This is an exceptional opportunity for you to play a significant part in creating a memorable buzz around Derby. The popularity of these events ensures that your creativity will have a mass audience, as thousands visit the trail, and follow and celebrate it on social media. The event will invariably generate media coverage, both on and off-line, and will enable you to connect directly with other artists, businesses and the community throughout the project.
As a successful applicant, you will be paid an honorarium of £900 on completion of your artwork. Your work will be acknowledged across all printed material and other related event collateral; including your sculpture’s plaque, official trail map, souvenir guide and the event website and app.
Designs are welcomed in any medium; from traditional to new media, fine art to illustrations, graffiti and mosaic. Whatever the art form, we’re keen to honour the mythical tale, by adding drama, fun and a creative flourish to the Derby Ram Trail!
