Residency: Ugandan Arts Trust

We are now accepting applications from artists based in the United Kingdom for a fully funded, two-week residency at 32° East | Ugandan Arts Trust, Kampala, Uganda. Gasworks’ International Fellowships Programme offers UK-based artists the opportunity to undertake a residency at one of Gasworks’ partners abroad. This programme is funded by Arts Council England.
Focus of the Residency: KLA ART Labs

32° East hosts KLA ART, a public contemporary art festival in Kampala, Uganda. What defines KLA ART is not just the commissioning of new work for a Ugandan public, but the professional development of artists, curators, and arts managers. After hosting two successful editions in 2012 and 2014, the festival took a hiatus in 2016 to allow time to debrief after each festival, time to capacitybuild through professional training locally and time to thoroughly develop public art concepts in the city. To accomplish these goals, we are launching KLA ART Labs, a month-long series of intensive engagement focused on group critique, international networking and concept development; all within the realm of public art. 32° East looks forward to hosting a UK-based artist with interest and/or experience in making art in the public domain on the African continent, and to share their work and learn from a unique context.
