The National Gallery is seeking a Secretary to the Board and Head of Governance to lead on Corporate Governance issues and provide high-level advice and support to the Chair, Board, Director and Executive Committee.
The post holder will play a key role in the effective running of the Gallery by ensuring that the highest standards of Corporate Governance are upheld to avoid reputational risk; ensuring that the annual programme of meetings of the Board, Committees of the Board and the Executive Committee runs smoothly supported by high quality papers, and with actions effectively followed up; and providing a key liaison role between the non-Executive Board and Executive.
The successful candidate is likely to have a governance or legal qualification or strong experience of corporate governance (ideally in a public sector or not for profit organisation) and will have exceptional interpersonal and influencing skills enabling them to act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders of the Gallery. They will have excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage conflicting demands; work comfortably as part of a team as well as on their own initiative; have excellent written skills and the ability to draft clear succinct documents and to produce accurate minutes of complex meetings. The ability to act with tact, diplomacy and an understanding of the importance of integrity, loyalty and discretion are also essential to success in this role.
