Site Specific Art Commission

UK Young Artists is seeking applications from artist/s who work in a socially responsive way, who would be interested in developing an innovative, ambitious and interactive temporary work and participatory opportunity, to engage families and children in response to the Nottingham Trent University Lace Archive. This is an open brief to all artists working across all genres who are aged between 18 – 30 on Monday 1st October 2018.

We envisage that the commission will consist of

  • One temporary, site specific public artwork which will be developed on-site by the artist/s and co-created or developed by members of the public, throughout four days of the City Takeover (Friday 8th – Monday 11th February 2019). The site will be agreed with the artist, but is expected to be a central city location with high footfall in order to maximise engagement.

And

  • One artist led talk about the artistic approach towards the commission, for degree students and members of the public at Bonnington Lecture Theatre, Nottingham Trent University.

And

  • One artist led workshop that offers interpretative learning experiences for children (5-10yrs) and young families and engages them with the artwork and the Nottingham Trent University Lace Archive.

Or

  • One artist led workshop that offers interpretative learning experiences for young people (12-16yrs) and engages them with the Nottingham Trent University Lace Archive.

Support

UKYA will provide the support of an Engagement Coordinator to assist the project’s management and delivery and and will promote and share the project across its social media sites, including 10k followers with an average monthly reach of 150k. There will be opportunities for the commissioned artist to come together with other UKYA artists and partners at selected points throughout the year and during the City Takeover, in order to share learning and feed into UKYA’s Nottingham 19 impact study.
