Don’t Settle aim to present the histories of minoritised communities that reside in the diverse area of Handsworth at Soho House. Through the theme of innovation, we hope to bridge the gap that exists between the House and the community.
Soho House is being reimagined by Don’t Settle Curators, aged between 16 and 25, for a November launch. Don’t Settle is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, of which BMT is a partner, and as part of their contribution to the project, will be funding the refurbishment.
The Call
Don’t Settle are commissioning a textile artist to create two separate textile pieces of 1m by 2.4m to hang vertically on display in the entryway of Soho House.
The design must take into account imperative Don’t Settle values such as:
- The reclaiming of heritage spaces that have traditionally excluded minoritised communities.
- The importance of presenting alternative narratives in heritage sites and museums.
- The valuable position that young people of colour play in telling these narratives and how they will carry the work forward.
