UKYA City Takeover Nottingham

200 ARTISTS.
3 CONTINENTS.
150 EVENTS.
7 DAYS
07 – 13 FEBRUARY 2019

2019 marks UKYA’s 10th birthday. Over the past 10 years we have delivered four large scale national festivals in the East Midlands. To celebrate our birthday, we are amplifying the ‘national festival’ – more artists, more days; venues; partners; events. We are calling this the ‘UKYA City Takeover’.

UKYA City Takeover: Nottingham 2019 will span the city, immersing visitors in an array of extraordinary, innovative and contemporary work from over 200 selected artists from three continents. Visual arts, performance, music and words will animate cultural spaces and unusual places across Nottingham.

UKYA City Takeover: Nottingham 2019 promises to be provocative, exciting, discerning and unique. Presenting art across borders, countries and nationalities; taking risks and opening minds.

UK Young Artists is seeking submissions for a week-long ‘City Takeover’ in Nottingham. The call is open to artists aged 18-30 working in the following art forms:

Applied Art: ceramics, glass, textiles, jewellery, fashion, architecture
Design: graphic and product design
Digital Art: animation, projection mapping, mixed reality performance, virtual reality, game design, interactive art and installation.
Literature: writing, poetry, storytelling and spoken word.
Moving Image: film, documentary, artist video and animation.
Music: sound art and all genres of music will be considered from individuals, bands and collaborations.
Performance: theatre, dance, live art, site-specific and outdoor performance.
Visual Arts: fine art, photography, installation, illustration, printmaking, site-specific work and sculpture.
Cross art form collaborations and interdisciplinary works are also welcomed!

Our City Takeovers are the foremost cross art form events for young artists in the UK. We create places and spaces for dancers to talk to sculptors and photographers to connect with musicians. For painters, dramatists, writers, and digital artists to forge collaborations with poets, ceramicists and filmmakers, at workshops, over breakfast or a late night tipple. The City Takeover is a unique place capable of allowing artists to playfully overlap their experiences and processes leading to new experimentation and high quality risk taking. It advocates for the emerging, the newfound and the ambitious within young contemporary artists. The festival will offer energy, exceptionalism and conversation between artists and the City; giving new learning and future prospects a foundation from which to build upon in collaboration.

UK Young Artists’ open call for submissions closes at 5pm on Monday 9 July. Successful artists will be notified before the end of July.
