About
In the centenary year of the founding of the influential Bauhaus art school in Weimar, Homage to the Bauhaus considers the impact of the school’s teachings and aesthetic ideas on artists and photographers in the twentieth century.
From artists who taught or studied at the Bauhaus itself to those whose work bears the imprint of its influence, this exhibition explores the many ways in which Bauhaus ideas were received and put into practice by succeeding generations of artists.
Drawn from the impressive Jack Kirkland collection, the exhibition presents a constellation of rarely seen works from different periods and different geographies. It includes Bauhaus pioneers, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy and Josef and Anni Albers, as well as early European experimental artists, Alexander Rodchenko and El Lissitzky. Beyond these early instrumental figures, the exhibition will consider Bauhaus influence on artists such as Ad Reinhardt, Donald Judd, Thomas Struth, Iwao Yamawaki, and Abraham Cruzvillegas.
