About

A performance and exhibition by Petra Salaric using paintings to convey the emotions experienced through interactions with other people.

Curated by Natasha Kitcher

Performance day: Friday 6 May, 10am-1pm and 2-5pm

Exhibition: 9-20 May, 10am-12pm (weekdays only)

Emotions are experiences that are within us. They can be created by themselves, or they can appear through interaction with others and with our surroundings. However, we are often not aware of the influence we have on others, nor do we get to see the emotions that we create within them.

In the project ‘Study in pink’ the aim is to show how the experiences of emotions that occur through interaction can be conveyed with the simplest of elements – with a singular shape and with one colour.

In the performance, the artist will produce paintings that represent her experience of the silent interactions with each visitor. Each painting will consist of a circular shape and a pink colour, thus turning the exposing and vulnerable experience of self-disclosure into a self-healing and grounding moment due to the grounding influence of a circle and the calming effect of pink colour. The exhibition will hold a series of paintings as a timeline of the artist’s interactions with visitors on the first and performing day.

The exhibition and the performance are an opportunity for the large Loughborough community to rethink about the impact we can have on one another, as well as how much of our impact on others goes unrecorded. The exhibition aims to trigger us to be more mindful of our behaviors towards others, and to become aware of and be grateful to those that have a positive influence in our lives.

To participate in the silent interaction with the artist on the performance day, you will need to sign up in advance using the link below. Other visitors are welcome to attend and observe the performance day; no booking is necessary for this.

Sign up for a silent interaction slot on Friday 6 May.
