About
Join us Saturday 16 November 3-5pm Village Heart at St. John’s in Donisthorpe for a musical performance by Youth Landscapers Collective and The Coal Tits inspired by the beautiful National Forest!
The Youth Landscapers Collective will present WAYANNAEYINANYONNIT (A Big Story), an exuberant musical performance remixing hidden stories from the heart of the National Forest. Inspired by miner’s galas, Bertolt Brecht, canaries, pigs, and the personal histories of those around us. There could be a role for you in this weird, wonderful world with new words.
The Youth Landscapers Collective are a group of young people aged 13-23 from the National Forest area who explore and share the landscape’s industrial past and forest future through ambitious creative projects.
The Coal Tits are a Community Singing Group based in the National Forest, in North West Leicestershire and South Derbyshire. Originally formed from the Ballad Collective initiative organised as part of the National Forest’s Black to Green programme, the aim of the collective was to research and revive the legends, ballads and songs of the area, led by Jennifer Reid, an experienced ballad researcher from Lancashire. Their material is written by group members using local tales and legends, and mostly set to traditional melodies. The songs celebrate the industries that made the area (notably coal mining, and clay pipes and bricks), the history of the area from the viking invasions to the present day, and notable characters and events around the National Forest.
No booking required, we’ll be accepting donations to support our youth-led CIC’s ambitious creative projects!
The Youth Landscapers Collective is funded by Arts Council England, The National Forest Company, and Historic England’s Everyday Heritage grant programme, celebrating working class histories.
