Artist in Residence

Your Story, Your Collection’ Artist in Residence – Open Call For Artists

Overview of the Role
Rugby Art Gallery & Museum is seeking to appoint a freelance Artist in Residence as part of its Arts Council England funded project ‘Your Story, Your Collection’. To be based at The Benn Partnership Centre in Rugby.

‘Your Story, Your Collection’ is a community engagement project which aims to make the collections at Rugby Art Gallery & Museum more representative and accessible to the diverse communities now living and working in Rugby.

Working in collaboration with The Benn Partnership Centre, Rugby Art Gallery & Museum aims to increase its presence and relevance to the local community outside of the gallery building.

The role will sit within the project team as a freelancer, reporting to the Project Coordinator (also freelance) and permanent Rugby Art Gallery & Museum staff team.

What’s Required
We are looking for an artist to work with a new community group who live and work in Rugby. The aim of the workshops will be to produce a collaborative artwork which brings to life the stories of the group. These sessions will be based at The Benn Partnership Centre.
This brief has been left as open as possible to encourage a broad range of proposals from artists working with different media. This could be visual art, film, photography, spoken word, music or dance. The Artist in Residence will ideally be based in or have knowledge of Rugby, however, this is not essential and we welcome applications from artists based further afield.
Key deliverables:

  • A new piece of artwork inspired by the project, workshops, community consultation findings, and RAGM’s collections
  • At least five participatory workshops with the new community group
  • One public talk about the artist’s work on the project
  • Contribution to project evaluation

Fee
The maximum budget for this piece of work is £5400 to include all expenses, travel, taxes, and materials.
Please outline your fee structure with a suggested number of days and a daily rate in your application. Fees will be paid in 2 instalments, one at the beginning of the contract and one upon completion.
Timescale of work
April – December 2022 (flexible)

Location
Some work may be remote, such as team meetings, but we anticipate that this role will involve in-person delivery of workshops and creation of work at both Rugby Art Gallery & Museum and the Benn Partnership Centre in Rugby.
