Artist Open Call – Leicestershire Community Artwork

Artist Wanted for Community Artwork in Leicestershire

Culture Leicestershire in partnership with Quorn Community Library seeks an artist or organisation to create a participatory artwork for the library as part of QuornArt22. This is a Cultural Communities Network Project to celebrate Quorn life and engage new groups in the community, including people with disabilities, younger people, older people and those who would benefit from increased social connection. You can find out more at https://www.cultureleicestershire.co.uk/quorn-library/. Looking at the website as a whole will give a flavour of the work we do, but every project is different, reflecting the diverse nature of the communities we work with.

Project engagement began in November 2021, and we are now looking for an artist or organisation to work with up to six groups to contribute to or inform an artwork that the artist will facilitate or create. Participatory sessions should be complete by the end of March 2022, with the artwork complete by the end of April 2022, although it is possible for there to be some flexibility around this for the right proposal.

There is no current stipulation on the form the artwork should take, and members of the community will be involved in selecting the artist. The brief is purposefully very open as we want the artist or organisation to be able to respond in a way that best suits their practice. Participatory sessions could be used to generate material to inspire the final art work, or could involve facilitating the groups to create elements of the final piece. Due to the current levels of Covid some work may need to be delivered remotely. Funding of up to £3000 is available for this work.

To access the full brief and submit a proposal or to find out more please email Macha Barnden macha.barnden@leics.gov.uk. The deadline for this opportunity is Midday 26 January. You can also ask to join our Creative Practitioner list so we can let you know directly of any future opportunities that may be of interest.

We look forward to hearing from you, and please don’t hesitate to get in touch with any questions.
