A(st)udio Residency Open Call

For Nottingham/shire-based artists working with sound / audio & musicians from lower socio-economic backgrounds

This is the first round in a series of three residencies for artists working with sound / audio & musicians from lower socio-economic backgrounds and currently based in Nottingham or Nottinghamshire. The artist or musician selected will be provided with a rent-free studio space at Primary for 3-months, as well as access to artist and professional development support.

Opportunity Overview

The artist or musician selected will be provided with a rent-free studio space within our building from 19 September – 19 December 2022, as well as access to artist and professional development support.

The available studio is:

  • Available between 19 September – 19 December 2022.

  • On the ground floor of our main building.

  • A sound-proofed recording space with small area for desk-based working.

  • Accessible 24/7.

  • Connected to Primary’s Wi-Fi.

Applicant Information

  • This is an opportunity open to artists working with sound / audio and musicians from lower socio-economic backgrounds. Applicants might identify as working class or under class. No means testing will take place.

  • Applicants must also be based in Nottingham or Nottinghamshire; this is because there is no travel budget available for this opportunity.

  • We are open to alternative means of application / application submission, e.g., in the body of an email, presented as a recorded video or audio description.

  • Applicants who are shortlisted but not selected on this occasion will be asked if they want Primary to keep their application on record to be resubmitted for the next round. There will be three rounds, with three residencies taking place in this series.
