Charnwood Arts – Emerging Artists Programme

We are offering eighteen artists the opportunity to access our Emerging Artist Programme as interns between April and December 2021. This initiative is specifically designed to provide up and coming artists with the support they may need to develop their careers within the contemporary art world. Six artists will be selected for each ten week cycle of the programme. The programme cycle dates for 2021 are as follows:

Cycle 1 19/04/2021 – 25/06/2021 (Deadline 10th April)
Cycle 2 05/07/2021 – 10/09/2021 (Deadline 1st June)
Cycle 3 20/09/2021 – 26/11/2021 (Deadline 30th August)

About the opportunity Successful applicants will be offered studio space within Fearon Hall, Loughborough (providing Covid-19 restrictions allow for this). A minimum attendance of two days for studio work will be required per week. In addition, participants will be expected to attend the scheduled talks and participate in critiques, field trips, mentoring sessions, etc., during the ten-week period.

The programme will provide participating artists the opportunity to:

  • Create a new body of work in an environment of care, knowledge exchange and collaboration.
  • Be part of a network of emerging artists which fosters and encourages the cross-fertilisation of ideas and facilitates an exchange between different art disciplines.
  • Allow space, time and the stimulus to push the boundaries of their art through responding to project themes.
  • Exhibit work in interesting spaces and gain experience in event management.
  • Experience the many aspects of organising and delivering participatory arts projects, for example, delivering workshops both face to face and online.
  • Gain curatorial experience through collaborating on exhibitions with fellow emerging artists.
  • Access specialist tuition, for example, setting up/ design of individual websites, writing online blogs, photoshop skills, managing social media platforms.
  • Develop knowledge of sources of relevant art opportunities/residences, identifying curators, etc, and develop skills in writing applications.
  • Develop presentation skills through talking about their individual art practice to peers within the group.
  • Gain support with sales and marketing (help with material including film).
  • Reach out to a larger audience through Charnwood art’s social media platforms and other publicity.
  • Each artist will be allocated a page on the Charnwood Arts website including their work being made available to purchase through our online shop.
  • Have your work critiqued by professional artists Equality, diversity and inclusion Arts in care practitioner training (for artists who wish to develop their practice in community, healthcare and social care contexts)

References /certificate of completion will be provided to participants at the end of the programme.

Eligibility

Artists must:

  • live/practice within the East Midlands.
  • be at early career stage or alternatively at a later career stage and still striving to establish an arts practice because of encountering obstacles/challenges.

We welcome people who are BAME, LGBTQ+, with disability, neurodiversity and challenging economic backgrounds.
