COMPUTALA 2025 AR Bootcamp Residency

Are you interested in utilising AR technology in your art practice?

New Media Art Club’s artist bootcamp residencies are intensive, short-term programs designed to help artists rapidly develop their skills, ideas, and professional practices. Typically spanning a few days, these residencies offer structured workshops, mentorship, and collaborative projects, culminating in an exhibition.

This will be our 3rd bootcamp residency, and this time we want to explore Augmented Reality.

What We Offer You:

Mentorship and Technical Guidance: Artist Nicholas Delap will lead the bootcamp, offering expertise in Unity, Blender, 3D capturing, and more. You’ll learn directly from an experienced practitioner in a supportive, creative environment.

Professional Development and Exhibition Opportunity: Use the bootcamp to develop a piece for the Computala Digital Art Month exhibition at the Lightbox Gallery in LCB Depot. This residency culminates in an exhibition and public performance events.

Compensation: We offer a fee of £900 (inclusive of VAT) for your work in the exhibition, plus a separate budget for materials and lunch. This is your opportunity to showcase your art and be compensated for your creative contributions.

Access to Equipment: While we encourage participants to bring their own computers with Unity and Blender installed, a limited number of computers are available if needed.

What We Ask of You:

Commitment to Attend Both Days: The bootcamp runs on 7th-8th January 2025, from 10:00 to 17:00 at LCB Depot (31 Rutland Street, LE1 1RE). Full attendance on both days is essential.

Dedication to Create New Work: We invite you to use this opportunity to create a new piece that will be featured in the Computala Digital Art Month exhibition. This work will be exhibited from 10th to 31st January 2025, with private and public events to engage viewers.

An Idea Relevant to Your Practice: Prior knowledge of Unity and Blender isn’t required, but we expect you to have a strong vision for how AR technology can intersect with your artistic practice.

Deadline and Application: Please apply by 16th December. Selected artists will be notified by 20th December.

Enthusiasm and Openness: Since our bootcamp residencies are such a quick turnaround, we encourage participants to approach this residency with a critical and playful spirit.

We are committed to making this bootcamp accessible and open to all artists interested in exploring AR. Please reach out if you have questions at hi@newmediaart.club
