SCORE forms part of Stella Sideli’s practice-based doctoral research in philosophy, exploring listening within cultural institutions. The work emerged through a Research Curator residency at FACT, Liverpool, where Stella developed artist-led interventions using sound, movement, rhythm, silence and spatial displacement to alter the conditions of governance meetings.
This research continues through Stella’s work with CVAN EM and CVAN WM as part of Ode to the Midlands, where SCORE is being explored and engaged by partner organisations with different capacities and relationships to programming and commissioning.
We are sharing SCORE as a resource for organisations interested in exploring how listening is organised within their own contexts, and how it might be composed differently.
Ode to the Midlands
Ode to the Midlands (OttM) is an 18-month cross-regional commissioning programme led by CVAN EM and CVAN WM. The programme brings together six Midlands-based mid-career artists to explore identity, place and belonging through new digital commissions, alongside a programme of organisational development, research and learning.
Alongside commissions and public learning, engagement and development activity, OttM creates opportunities to explore and shape how organisations can embed learning around equity, inclusion, collaboration and organisational practice and share this learning with the sector.
Stella Sideli: OttM Curatorial Research Lead (EDI/Organisational Practice)
For OttM, Stella Sideli supports organisational development, mentoring, evaluation and legacy thinking across the programme, helping to ensure that learning is embedded throughout the project and can be meaningfully reflected on, articulated and shared.
Stella is an independent curator, researcher and learning advisor working across contemporary art, organisational practice and digital culture. Her work focuses on listening as a critical, artistic and organisational method, exploring not only who gets to speak within institutions, but how attention, attunement and participation are structured and sustained.
