We launched In Another Place – 10 billboards, 10 places, 6 weeks – on Friday 25th May at an afternoon event at Attenborough Arts Centre in Leicester.
We unveiled the entire collection of new artworks created especially for the project and guests were able to meet some of the artists who have created them and representatives from some of the project venues. We heard from Barbara Matthews, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Culture) and Head of the College of Art, Architecture, Design and Humanities at Nottingham Trent University, who was involved in selecting the venues one year ago. She spoke about the how the project was concerned with selling ideas rather than things and about what a visual spectacle it will create for the region. Barbara was followed by Rebecca Blackman, Director of Engagement and Audiences and the Midlands at Arts Council England, who spoke about the offer for audiences presented by the project and how it amplifies the voice of the sector.
Elizabeth Hawley-Lingham, CVAN EM director, then conversed with award-winning artist Amartey Golding, whose exhibition Is it just me, or is it you? and In Another Place artwork are currently on display in the Gallery at Attenborough Arts Centre until 17thJune and located on 80 Leicester Rd/King St, Loughborough, LE11 2AG until 1st July, respectively.
As the event drew to a close, guests were called to action, to visit the billboards, browse the website and spread the word! You can do the same! These are the billboards you’re looking for!
