Artist Commission

Arts In The Yard are leading a large scale art and movement project that will culminate in a new walking trail launching Summer 2018.

Co-funded by Birmingham City Council, Sport England and West Midlands Police, this combined culture and health & wellbeing project is designed to engage communities across the ward of Stechford & Yardley North, and beyond.  New pieces of public art will be co-designed with residents and form a summer 2018 (July, August, September) walking trail.  The new pieces will form a route to encourage local people to move around and explore their neighbourhood on foot, as families and individuals, meeting their neighbours and contributing to a welcoming and joined up community.  The project is designed to encourage local people to engage and respond to their neighbourhood.

We are seeking a lead artist, other artists and shadow artists to work with residents to create new pieces of public art.

The art forms utilised and created will be decided through a co-design model, working alongside residents, to explore art forms that are relevant to them.  We will focus on artworks that encourage an element of participation especially those that encourage residents to take photos of themselves with the artwork, supporting a further project element through social media.  We will form a trail with both a physical and electronic map.

Applications in writing (no more than 400 words) to artsintheyard@gmail.com please include details on relevant previous work, how you incorporate co-design into your art and where in Stechford you could imagine your work.
