Artist Vacancy – CVAN South East Steering Group

CVAN South East is seeking an Artist Member to join its Steering Group. The purpose of this role is to provide insight on issues affecting artists in the region and ensure that artists’ voices are incorporated into the direction and oversight of the network’s activity. The artist’s voice is a vital part our governing structure.

CVAN South East is a network of organisations across the visual arts sector in the South East region of England. It aims to be an effective network for the sector in this region by working in partnership on strategic projects and programmes, and by sharing learning and information to maximise expertise and creative thinking.

The network is concerned with developing critically engaged art practice. Beyond the membership it is dedicated to promoting a visual arts ecology that thrives on the interdependence of many stakeholders, including artists and art professionals, local government, higher education, not-for-profit and commercial sectors.

The current members of the network are Aspex Gallery, Blast Theory, De La Warr Pavilion, Fabrica, Hastings Contemporary, HOUSE Biennial, John Hansard Gallery, Lightbox, Lighthouse, Milton Keynes Gallery, Modern Art Oxford, Open School East, Outside In, Pallant House Gallery, Phoenix Art Space, Photoworks, Project Art Works, Reading International, Towner Art Gallery, and Turner Contemporary.

CVAN South East is one of the nine regional networks in England that make up CVAN (the Contemporary Visual Arts Network). The network is supported by Arts Council England.

The artist’s voice is a vital part our governing structure. There are currently two places reserved on the Steering Group; one for an artist and one for an artist-organisation. Specifications The purpose of this role is to provide insight on issues affecting artists in the region and ensure that artists’ voices are incorporated into the direction and oversight of the network’s activity. There are four Steering Group per year. Members serve a tenure of two years. Meetings take place in London and the South East region.

The requirements for the role are:

  • an active critically-engaged art practice
  • wide-reaching professional connections in the South East and personal networks in the visual arts
  • the ability to contribute a fresh independent voice informed by direct experience
  • knowledge of the visual arts ecology in the region
