Claire Frances Peasnall Memorial Fund 2021

St Hugh’s Foundation for the Arts invites applications from painters wishing to research or create new work

The St Hugh’s Foundation for the Arts is pleased to announce that it will be reopening the Claire Frances Peasnall Memorial Fund in 2021, aimed specifically at painters and those working with drawing.

Applicants should not be in full-time education and should be based in our area of benefit (the City of Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire and/or Lincolnshire (including North and North East Lincolnshire)).

This Award of up to £1,000 is given in memory of previous Award recipient Claire Peasnall, who was supported by the Foundation in 2000 to visit the Huntington Desert Garden in San Marino, California, a research trip that substantially extended her practice, enabling her to create work that contributed to her first solo exhibition in Gainsborough in 2001.

The Award supports artists working with painting and drawing to create new work or develop their practice in some way. For 2021, in the light of ongoing COVID restrictions, we have removed the condition around needing to use this funding to support travel.

The St Hugh’s Foundation for the Arts will also be awarding a second round of Artists Respond funding in 2021 to support artistic projects in our area of benefit (the City of Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire (including North and North East Lincolnshire)).

Our next deadline for the Claire Peasnall and Artists Respond funds will be the 9th April 2021.

To apply for the Claire Frances Peasnall Memorial Award: visit the Awards section of the St Hugh’s Foundation website and follow the separate guidelines here:https://www.sthughsfoundation.co.uk/assets/downloads/ClairePeasnallApplicationForm2021_FINAL.docx.

Chair of the St Hugh’s Foundation for the Arts Katie Green says, “In 2019 we were excited to make the first Claire Frances Peasnall Memorial Award to artist Charlene Clempson to support her work at the Red Gate Gallery in Beijing. We are hugely grateful to Claire’s family for their generous donation, which has made it possible for us to give this support to artists such as Charlene in memory of one of our previous Award recipients.”

Potential applicants are advised to read the full application guidelines in detail, which are available on the Awards section of our website here:www.sthughsfoundation.co.uk/awards
