Manchester International Festival has gained an international reputation for the quality and ambition of its commissions, productions and exhibitions and in particular for its focus on supporting innovative interdisciplinary practice. With the opening of The Factory MIF now needs to build a year-round programme of dance, theatre, opera, visual art, popular culture and innovative contemporary work incorporating the latest digital technologies. The Curatorial Associates will play a key role in supporting the Artistic and Creative Directors and the wider organisation as it develops the artistic programme – making connections with exceptional creative talent and researching leading edge artistic practice.
Responsibilities
- Working closely with the Artistic and Creative Directors and other key staff, including the Head of Music, to contribute curatorial ideas to the Festival and Factory to help create dynamic, original and diverse artistic programmes across all art forms
- To support the Artistic and Creative Directors in ensuring a truly diverse range of programming in terms of cultural representation and gender balance, as well as global representation
- To instigate introductions and nurture relationships with artists, their representatives and arts institutions, in liaison with the Artistic and Creative Directors
- To represent the organisation at events, exhibitions, productions and meetings nationally and internationally, networking on behalf of the organisation in order to create artistic opportunities and raise profile and awareness for MIF and The Factory
- To advise the Artistic and Creative Directors and wider team members on seeing work that is relevant to the artistic programme
- To provide research support for MIF and Factory projects
- To advise and input on contextual programmes lead of talks and debates for the festival, developing intellectually and artistically ambitious content and concepts and work closely with the MIF Producing Team to ensure their effective delivery
- To co-ordinate with the Producing Team on all other discussion and talk offers during the Festival and The Factory (e.g. post show discussions) to ensure consistency and collaboration
- To liaise with all MIF departments including Digital, Communications, Creative Learning, Development and Administration and Finance to secure a smooth flow of information
