Compton Verney Art Gallery and Park invites applications for the position of Director.

Compton Verney is a nationally accredited art gallery and museum set in an early 18th Century Grade 1 listed mansion and surrounded by a historic ‘Capability’ Brown park of 120 acres. It has six permanent collections and runs a busy programme of top quality exhibitions and events, attracting audiences of c100,000 visitors pa from near and far.  An extraordinary and unique place, driven by the mission that art is for everyone, it is embedded in its local community but also a player on the national and international stage.  Having doubled its visitor numbers since opening in 2004, and established itself as a place of discovery, play and reflection, in this next phase, Compton Verney will need to ensure its long-term viability and resilience through expanding its visitor offer and increasing its commercial and income-generating potential.

Building on Compton Verney’s success to date, the new Director will bring renewed purpose to the organisation, providing strategic leadership, artistic direction and commercial drive.  Keeping Compton Verney firmly on the map in terms of artistic reputation and visitor appeal, the Director will be required to tackle the long-term sustainability of the organisation while maintaining its core mission.

In the new Director, Compton Verney seeks a leader with experience in the cultural or heritage sectors and a passionate belief in making art accessible to the widest possible audience.  With personal credibility and presence to work effectively with the governors, trustees and with external stakeholders, they will have the entrepreneurial and commercial skill to develop Compton Verney as a sustainable enterprise for the future.  Good management skills, able to effectvely manage a strong and capable senior team, they will also have the ability to provide artistic leadership and will be excited by the opportunities provided in the House and the Park to inspire engagement with larger and more diverse audiences.
