Documentation Officer

We are looking for someone who can provide and manage documentation and registrar-related services in an museum environment and in accordance with the policies and priorities of Leicester City Council ensure services are relevant to and reflective of the citizens of modern Leicester.

You will:

Manages insurance and valuation procedures and controls procedures for the loan and movement of objects and collections.

Specialist in documentation / museum registrar work and also supports all the sections that conserve, document, and store collections and make them accessible to further the museums service.

Leads on all aspects relating to national Accreditation standards, providing advice on collections management procedures, etc. and organising staff training as required on cataloguing, documentation and relevant collections management software.

Manages all documentation systems and procedures, acts as system administrator, controls documentation and data standards, ensuring conformity with the National Museum Data Standard (SPECTRUM).

Manage human, material and financial resources in line with Council policies and procedures and maximise opportunities for income generation including supporting external funding initiatives

Promotes and acts as advocate for collections management and documentation and the wider Museum Service including maximising external partnerships with other cultural organisations

Requirements of the post:

Degree level ability, OR equivalent level of relevant experience

A minimum of two years’ experience in relevant documentation and collections management in a heritage or museum environment

Experience of budget management on small and medium sized projects

Experience of management of staff and/or volunteers

Knowledge of IT applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook

Knowledge / use of museum collections databases – such as Mimsy or equivalent

Additional Information:

1 Full Time, Fixed Term position for a maximum of nine months to cover maternity leave.

Salary: £31,371 – £33,799 per annum
