Gallery Operations and Retail Officer

The Gallery opened in 2017 and since then has delivered a sustained period of growth. It has a highly successful and wide-ranging programme of activity with a backbone of substantial exhibitions by major contemporary artists and designers including Jonathan Monk, Grayson Perry and the jewellers Tatty Devine. The Gallery has a dual role, enhancing students’ experience during their time at the University and delivering a world class programme of contemporary art and design for the city and beyond. The Gallery is a part of the Faculty of Arts, Design and Humanities.

As a Gallery Operations and Retail Officer, you will be responsible for overseeing key aspects of The Gallery’s operations, with a particular focus on developing and delivering the retail offer to specified income targets. You will also lead on a range of other operational support to ensure the effective day-to-day running of The Gallery. This will include stock offer and management, timetabling of front of house staff and volunteers, coordinating event bookings in The Gallery and undertaking financial and other administration for The Gallery. There will be significant interaction with the public through the role.

As the Gallery Operations and Retail Officer, you will have previous experience of working within a gallery or other cultural destination. You will understand the mechanisms for ordering stock, stock management and retail budgeting. You will be interested in contemporary art and design and able to shape a shop offer to both reflect this context and generate a significant income. This is part time position and will require you to work 30 hours per work. Typical working hours: Monday-Friday 11am-5pm, with occasional evening/weekend working.
