Are you ready to take a lead role in delivering the ground-breaking Museum of Making project? Are you up for a challenge? We are looking for a new Head of Curatorship and Curator of Making at Derby Museums to be at the heart of the Museum of Making project and take a strategic lead on curatorship across the organisation.

The Role

You will be uniquely positioned to deliver on all the amazing work so far, bringing your own curatorial expertise and experience to bear on an ambitious project and in an ambitious organisation. You will thrive on taking ideas into action in partnership with colleagues, volunteers and partners – co-producing exciting displays, exhibitions and interpretation that inspire curiosity and the desire to find out more.

Everything is ready to go and the project team are primed to work with you in delivering the final stages of the Museum of Making, helping achieve the project themes ‘Inspired by the Makers of the Past, Made by the Makers of Today, Empowering the Makers of the Future’. Working closely with your colleagues in the Integrated Project Team (colleagues, designers, architects, construction members etc.), you will lead the return of the collections and their display and interpretation in the new Museum of Making, ready to open in September 2020. You will be excited about the concept of ‘100%’ access to collections and be committed to co-production approaches that ensure we do it ‘with’ and not ‘to’.

The Person

Open to embracing new ways of working, you will be passionate about creating access through opening up curatorial processes. Experienced in leading complex projects you will have excellent interpersonal skills and know how to foster collaborative relationships between a range of partners and audiences.

You will be used to leading teams, managing budgets and making strategic recommendations – highly organised, you’ll also know when to be flexible. We need you to be ready to dive in at the deep end!
