Manifestos for the Future Summer School

Revised Dates: 17 – 21 August 2020
Application Deadline Extended: Monday 29 June, 5:00pm

Mansions of the Future and Proto-type Theater invite artists, theatre makers and creative practitioners living or professionally based in the Midlands to encounter radical and challenging approaches to creating work and developing their practice.

Designed for creative practitioners looking to explore and develop their expanding practices, the Summer School will consist of workshops, talks, new work development, discussion and debate supported by guest speakers. The week will end with an invitation to develop and share your own manifesto for change – artistic, personal or societal. A full programme can be dowloaded here.

The Summer School is hosted by Mansions of the Future, an arts and culture hub located in Lincoln dedicated to exploring the relationship between art, culture and democracy, and Proto-type, a company of multi-disciplinary artists creating original, politically and socially engaged work across the UK.

Candidates who face cultural, social, physical or economic barriers to applying for opportunities in the arts and those who have lived experience of incarceration or detention are particularly encouraged to apply – with our assessors understanding our commitment to equality and diversity.

Participation in the Summer School is free, and we can also provide support in the form of a bursary to applicants who require assistance with travel or accommodation expenses. Please indicate below if you would like to apply for additional financial support.

Programme: We are exciting to announce that the programme will include contributions from artist Alison Lloyd, artist and researcher Phoebe Davis, artist working in writing and performance Francesca Millican-Slater and self-producing artist duo Chatum Tanning (Rohanne Udall and Paul Hughes). You can download the full Summer School programme and schedule here.

COVID-19 Announcement Update: As a commitment to the wellbeing of staff, volunteers, artists, and the local community, Mansions of the Future and Proto-type Theater have taken the decision to postpone the Manifestos for the Future Summer School originally scheduled to take place 13 – 17 July, and extend the application deadline until Monday 29 June. Circumstances permitting, we hope the Summer School will now due to take place from 17 – 21 August 2020.

There is every possibility that these dates will be reviewed once more in line with developing government advice. In the circumstances of changing dates, in the first instance we intend to prioritise places for those who were successful in the initial application process, hoping that all successful applicants are still able to take part.
